Celebrate our residency at Hello Lincoln with the ultimate HOUSE PARTY – we’re teaming up with Public Record Online and the Japanese Friendship Garden with the EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE of 70’s Japanese horror, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s 1977 technicolor haunted house/musical/animated/evil cat cult horror film HAUSU!

Toho Studios approached Obayashi, a successful avant-garde designer and commercial director, with the suggestion to make a film like Jaws. Influenced by ideas from his daughter Chigumi, he developed ideas for a script by Chiho Katsura featuring a cat. After the project was green-lit, it was put on hold for two years as no one at Toho wanted to direct it. However, Obayashi kept promoting the film until the studio allowed him to direct it himself. House was filmed on one of Tohos largest sets, whereObayashi shot the film without a storyboard over a period of about two months and the result was a successful horror film that was rediscovered theatrically in 2009 where it gained a cult following for its stream-of-consciousness horror with shades of Suspiria and the Wizard of Oz. Cult Classics is proud to bring HOUSE back to the big screen on Saturday August 29th at 7pm – presented with support from the Japanese Friendship Garden in Phoenix and their Yokai programming this Halloween season!
